butter LONDON

butterLONDON nail lacquerWe love butter LONDON nail lacquers–amazing colors, better than Chanel. Really. And they are free of formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and parabens. Kelly confesses that after making Gwynneth Paltrow’s Chicken Milanese for dinner (it’s true the cook book works for non-chef, non-cook food preparers) curiosity hit and she found butter LONDON at GOOP.

butter LONDON’s colors are so good we have to pass them on.

Marie Veronique Organics

Marie Veronique Organics Anti-Aging OilMarie Veronique Organics Anti-Aging Oil is one of those products that inspires conversation, how great it feels on our skin, how we can’t imagine going back to lotion, and does it add a little life color or is that just our imagination?

And then we start talking about the Anti-Aging Mist. Spray that on and then dab on the oil–we are rejuvenated. We can walk to the kitchen and make breakfast for small children. We might even whip up french toast.

MVO products are organic, natural and well formulated. EWG lists their sunscreens as some of the best. The Anti-Aging Oil (we’ve graduated to the Anti-Aging Oil+) and Mist are our favorites, worth trying out their other products too.

rms beauty

rms beautyrms beauty’s living luminizer could be our favorite make up product ever. Living luminizer is a small pot of highlighter that brightens tired eyes with one sweep across the eyelids. Combine with their concealer, lip & skin balm and a lip2cheek color, and our make up’s done in less than five minutes. Even better, it looks great.

Celebrity make-up artist Rose-Marie Swift created rms beauty and includes information about skincare as well as the ingredients in her organic, mineral products. A great line, really thought out and so easy to apply.

Common Sense Media

Our response to discovering Common Sense Media: Fantastic! A reliable, user friendly source to help us avoid the scary and not okay media and figure out what’s just right for our kids.

Common Sense Media is a non-profit advocacy group advising parents and teachers about media issues for kids. They have excellent reviews of TV shows, movies, music, books, websites and video games. Common Sense Media also advises parents and teachers on teaching kids about advertisements and setting age appropriate media limits. And they are currently advocating in Washington for better privacy controls on social networking sites, one of those big issues on our parenting horizon.

The Common Sense Media iPhone app keeps all those reviews at our fingertips so we can look up a “Mommy, I’m dying to see this show” DVD in front of the library stacks. We also have neutral third party proof when a preschool-wise four year old says it really is okay for him to watch Star Wars that it’s really not.

The Story of Cosmetics

We love the simplicity of The Story of Stuff and their new video The Story of Cosmetics about toxins in make up and body care products. The narrator Annie Leonard walks through a cartoon identifying issues and what can be done to resolve them. The videos are short and pack enough information to stir up a lively dinner conversation. Inspiring, worth watching, may lead to Dr. Hauschka make up conversions.
