Chronicles of Chaos

Thomas the Train Recall

I open up a MomsRising newsletter (one of my I do read them sometimes efforts to stay aware of public policy) today to discover there’s a recall on Thomas the Tank Engine Trains.

Turns out certain Thomas train toys made by a China manufacturer within a certain time period have lead paint.

Here’s the Consumer Product Safety Comission recall notice that shows the specific toys.
We have a few of these trains. They usually come from odd visits to the toy store when we’re on a trip and desperate for a child occupier. They’re small and seem harmless.

Apparently looks are deceiving.

The fallout is I’m examining the kids’ rooms with new eyes–doubting all toys and wishing I could turn them into unpainted wood.

MomsRising also includes a link to this ABC news story about an increase in imported children’s products with lead, which I’m trying to keep in the category of good to know and out of the one more thing to worry about pile.
