Chronicles of Chaos
Car seat info
Every so often I check up on my car seat facts, this time about booster seats for toddlers, and how long older children use boosters.
Many older toddlers are within booster seat weight range when they weigh 30 pounds, meaning the booster seat manual says 30 to 80 pounds or something like that.
But safety guidelines advise keeping toddlers in a 5 point harness until they’re 40 pounds.
I confess that a year ago I debated cheating this guideline with Wyatt in an effort to fit three car seats in one small station wagon row. Reading a few horror stories (that I always manage to find online and then must read) corrected my path.
At the other end of the car seat range, I looked at how much longer Amelia needs a booster seat–until she’s 4′9″ tall, usually around eight years old, though I can keep her in the booster longer if she’s still within the weight limits of the booster.
My latest favorite for car seat safety, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. For a last interesting tidbit, they advise that all kids ride in the back seat until 13 years old.
