Chronicles of Chaos
The Perfect Grocery Store
There’s a market on the way to Amelia’s horse riding lesson that is the perfect grocery store.
It’s not large, flashy or comprehensive.
It’s feel good. I aspire to create our home in the likes of this market. Michael and I have serious conversations about where we could live so this market could become our market.
The market has two parts–the groceries and the prepared food. I’ll start with the groceries. Local, organic and vetted for realness. The market chooses its products carefully. There’s not a lot, but enough–the just right approach.
Whole Foods also has quality controls, which I appreciate. But sometimes Whole Foods markets are so filled with choices that I’m overwhelmed by my options. (I’m also deeply saddened that their takeover of Wild Oats may mean the end of the fresh baked Wild Oats chocolate muffin, which is a highlight of my trips to Los Angeles.)
At the perfect grocery store, the prepared foods are delicious and healthy. Spelt and oat flour muffins and cookies (I’m a baked goods addict), wheat-free pizza, sandwich wraps and soups, hot entrees that may sound funny but taste so good I don’t mind I’m eating barley.
The best part, if anything can be better, is that I swear the people shopping in the market are noticeably friendly and happy. I think shopping in a thoughtful place makes us all feel better.
I’m not sure how I can transport this environment to the house–I’m thinking about buying less, looking for quality, and appreciating simplicity.
And moving closer to the market.
