Simple Tips

Pregnant Moms, Don’t Eat Tuna

Consumer Reports advises pregnant women to avoid all tuna, even the chunk light tuna that the FDA claims is safe.

CR experts found that in some cases the chunk light tuna contained more than twice as much mercury as the canned albacore (white tuna) that the FDA warns pregnant women to avoid.

CR reports: “Given the uncertainties about the safety of even chunk light tuna, we think it’s prudent for pregnant women to avoid tuna entirely.”

That said, if you’re pregnant and have been satisfying your tuna salad cravings, do not freak out.

Unaware of the tuna and mercury connection, Kelly ate tuna throughout her first pregnancy, albacore the worst kind by everyone’s standards, and everything was and is fine.
