Nightlife: The importance of flashlights & nightlights

Before we had kids, we stashed an emergency flashlight under the kitchen sink and didn’t own a nightlight.

Now we know which brands of nightlights take 4 watt bulbs, which take 7 watt and the benefits of florescents.

A few places we use a little light at night:

Nightfeeds: We can make sure a newborn has a good latch-on, or a sleepy older baby has the right part of the boob in his mouth.

Changing a poopy diaper: We pull a flashlight from the top drawer of the changing table, turn it on and lay it next to the baby on the pad. Only way we can see well enough to clean up and avoid a diaper rash in the morning.

Bathroom trips: Big kids can find the bathroom on their own. Or we can find it for them when we stumble into their rooms at 2 am in response to “MOMMY, I HAVE TO PEE!”

Not too bright and not too dark: To find the right brightness, Kelly tries different outlets or hides nightlights behind movable objects, like the diaper pail.
