Baby Slings
We like baby slings, especially for young babies as they want to be close and our arms get tired. Slings often help newborns settle in for sleep–Dads are especially good at this trick. Something about their wide shoulders and non-breastmilk scent.
We often get slings in two sizes, for ourselves and the dads. We also watch how much time our kids are in slings (and bjorns) as their bodies need breaks from being in these positions.
Lyndsey is our resident sling expert. Here are a few favorites:
The Ergo Baby Carrier
For young babies you need the infant insert. It really is the best for your body.
Over the Shoulder Baby Holder
Lyndsey’s favorite. You can choose from 100’s of fabrics and the price is good. You can adjust the strap and the kids really love this one when they are about 6 months.
The New Native Baby Carrier
Kelly (and most people, says Lyndsey) love the New Native for newborns. You can tuck them away and they are really close to you. Lyndsey’s kids didn’t like being tucked in, so she used it when they were older. Make sure you get the right fit for yourself. If the sling’s too big, it’s uncomfortable. We’re tall and wear mediums.
NOTE: The CPSC recently issued a baby sling safety warning for babies under four months due to a risk they may not be able to breathe well when lying in certain positions. For alternatives, the Moby Wrap and ERGObaby Carrier hold babies more upright.
