The Complete Organic Pregnancy by Deirdre Dolan and Alexandra Zissu
Highlights: The Complete Organic Pregnancy is written by two young mothers who created the book they wanted to have when they were pregnant.
The book is clever, a bit of a page turner (rare for the usually dense pregnancy topic) and divided into three parts: transforming (planning to get pregnant), growing (pregnant) and living (new mom stuff).
It’s written by moms for moms and breaks down organic living into basic steps that make sense–nutrition, nursery, birth, breastfeeding, etc. All the info on mattresses, nail care, cribs, water filters, paint, computers and other environmental stuff we suddenly wonder about when pregnant. Dolan and Zissu even include a few simple recipes and the how-tos of homemade organic baby food.
Lowlights: The selection of short birth stories are a little on the edgy side, just a forewarning. And as happens, some of the product info gets dated, there may be new products out there to try, like sunscreens.
Why we like it: A great, supportive, thorough step by step approach to going organic. Most important, a fun read.
