Simple Escapes for Tired Moms

When we’re tired (and cranky), it’s important to get out of the house. We keep it light–our hope is to refresh our perspective without draining energy.

1. Take a walk. We’ve found walking is the best therapy for a wide range of moods. Even fifteen minutes around the block makes a difference.

2. See a movie. Preferably a happy or thoughtful story that provides a nice escape. We bring good snacks.

3. Browse a bookstore. Bookstores have a clean, arty feel that can rejuvenate our sense of creativity. After we read a few back covers and look through the recent best sellers, we feel more connected to what’s going on in the world, and a little less absorbed with our personal challenges.

4. Tea and a good read. Sitting in a cozy coffee shop or outside on a sunny patio with a warm mug of tea is restorative. We might leisurely read the paper, a book, or just sit quietly.

5. Manicure/pedicure. The mani/pedi is one of the great indulgences that’s still accessible for a reasonable fee and not too much time. It’s amazing how much better we feel after someone rubs our hands and feet while we catch up on People Magazines.
