Bisphenol-A in Canned Food and Infant Formula

The Environmental Working Group recently completed tests on canned food, including liquid infant formula.

The endocrine disruptor Bisphenol-A (BPA, associated with breast and prostate cancer and infertility) leaches from the thin plastic coating inside the cans directly into the food they contain.

Liquid infant formula, chicken soup and ravioli had the highest levels of BPA.

Many other plastics contain BPA as well. While the BPA safety debate continues, there are safer alternatives–powder infant formula, safer canned foods like Eden Foods organic canned beans, BPA free baby bottles, children’s utensils and cups, and safer food containers and water bottles.
