Caffeine and Miscarriage

A study reports that pregnant women who consume 200 mg or more caffeine a day, 10 ounces of coffee or 25 ounces of tea (which isn’t very much), may double their risk of miscarriage.

The lead author of the study advises pregnant women to give up caffeine for at least the first three to four months.

The NY Times initially suggests that these findings clarify the formerly fuzzy area about caffeine for pregnant women–and then challenges the study with a quote from another obstetrician as to whether the results really are conclusive.

Hopefully there will be more studies. In the meantime, less caffeine.
