The Benefits of Sea Vegetables
We’ve been slowly introducing sea vegetables into our diets and for the kids. Sea vegetables have properties that bind heavy metals in the intestines and help wash them out of our systems. They are a good source of iodine for healthy thyroid function, and contain a wide range of minerals (calcium, iron), folic acid and lignans, a cancer cell inhibitor.
We do simple things like toast sea vegetables and add to rice or a stir fry, sprinkle a little on salads, or make our own sushi wraps with rice and vegetables. We also mix them into soup stocks. Amelia and her friends eat nori strips for snack at school.
Organic sea vegetables like wakame, nori, hijiki, kelp, and arame are often available at local markets and health food stores. Online, we find sea vegetables at Maine Coast Sea Vegetables.
