Environmental watch
The National Children’s Study
We feel hopeful about children’s health this month–Congress has funded a study that will examine how the environment effects children’s health and development. Launching January 13th, The National Children’s Study (NCS) will follow a diverse group of 100,000 American children from preconception though age 21. In three years, NCS expects to have preliminary results about pregnancy risks and early childhood illnesses.
Researchers will be looking at range of environmental factors and illnesses, including asthma, allergies, ADHD and autism. Healthy Child Healthy World has been a supporter of the study as well as other NGOs, physicians and universities which are collaborating with The National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and the EPA.
