HealthyStuff.org

HealthyStuff.org is a new site that tests and rates a range of products for toxic chemicals. They’ve expanded from cars and car seats (Healthy Car) to include toys, apparel and pet products. HealthyStuff.org tests for the presence of lead, bromine (flame retardants), mercury, PVC and other chemicals. They’ve just released test results for 2009 car seat models, listing the Best and Worst infant, convertible and booster seats.

The Ecology Center created HealthyStuff.org as a research tool for consumers and to raise awareness about the need for toxic chemical regulations in manufacturing. The Center for Environmental Health – California assists with the testing process. HealthyStuff.org reminds consumers that their testing methodology measures the amount of chemical in a product, and not the specific health risk (i.e., likeliness the chemical will be absorbed). Their FAQ explain more about their process and interpreting the results. They support the upcoming bill to revise the Toxic Substances Control Act and make it easy for readers to Take Action.
